Bengaluru is known for many things, and one of them is the dreaded traffic, making people wonder what the cops are up to. However, when they are on a mission, they end up seizing 30 supercars and luxury cars in the city. Yes, you heard that right — 30 high-end cars were seized in Bengaluru in one day!
Bengaluru cops seize 30 luxury cars
On Sunday, a special team consisting of 41 personnel, led by Transport Deputy Commissioner C Mallikarjun, along with Regional Transport Officers B Srinivas Prasad, Deepak, Srinivasappa, and Ranjit, went on a crackdown. The aim was to seize cars on Bengaluru roads for evading taxes.
The seized vehicles include high-performance two-seaters such as Ferrari, Porsche, and Aston Martin, while other luxury cars included BMW, Audi, and Range Rover — all for plying in the state without paying tax. As per an official, “”These cars were being driven in the state without paying the required taxes and a notice has been issued to recover approximately Rs 3 crore in taxes from the seized vehicles.”
As per section 47 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, if a motorised vehicle registered in one state is kept in another state for over a year, the owner must pay the tax for the particular state the car is in. Bengaluru has always been strict with its road tax situation and with Rs 3 crore in unpaid taxes, evaders had only so much time.
