BYD, the largest EV manufacturer in the world, is on a roll at the moment expanding its footprint across the world including India. The company has a separate line of luxury and performance EVs — Denza — similar to what Lexus is to Toyota and Genesis is to Hyundai. BYD has now unveiled its upcoming electric sports car named Denza Z at Shanghai Auto Show 2025.
Expected to lock horns with upcoming fully-electric Porsche 911, the Denza Z is expected to hit select international markets sometime later this year. The four-seater all-electric coupe showcased at the annual motoring exhibition was wrapped in a sparkling blue colour scheme.
BYD Denza Z: Design
The Denza Z embraces the classic sports car aesthetic with a low, athletic stance, a prominent front lip, and sharp, aggressive headlights. Its design is sleek and energetic, available in both hardtop and convertible variants. As a two-door coupe, the Denza Z features compact proportions, with the cabin tapering from the B-pillar to emphasize a muscular rear profile. Additional standout elements include frameless windows, flush-mounted door handles, and large wheels that enhance its bold appearance.

BYD Denza Z: Interiors & Features
The standout feature inside the Denza Z’s cabin is its foldable steering wheel, designed not only to enhance safety by providing extra space in the event of a collision but also to add a futuristic flair to the overall driving experience, as highlighted by Denza during the unveiling. Beyond its unique form, the steering system boasts advanced functionality beneath the surface.
At the heart of the Denza Z is a steer-by-wire system, powered by sophisticated AI algorithms. This setup promises a smooth and refined driving feel during everyday use, while still delivering sharp, responsive control on the track. Complementing this is the Disus-M system—an evolution of the existing Disus-Z. This magnetorheological body control system adapts in real time to road conditions, adjusting the suspension in under 10 milliseconds for enhanced ride comfort and handling.

BYD Denza Z: Expected price & launch
Even though a concept of the same was patented in India some time back, we cannot confirm if BYD is planning to bring this model anytime soon. The company also hasn’t shared full details of the powertrain offered in Denza Z but it is expected to use the same motor as seen in BYD Han L and Tang L models. It is expected to be priced above 300,000 yuan (approx Rs 35 lakh).
