BYD launched the Sealion 7 in India in February this year at a starting price of Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom) after being showcased at Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The electric crossover was recently crash tested at Euro NCAP and scored a perfect 5-star safety rating. It earned an impressive 87 per cent for adult occupant protection and 93 per cent for child occupant safety.
BYD Sealion 7: Adult Occupant Protection
The passenger compartment of the Sealion 7 remained stable during the frontal offset test. Dummy readings indicated good protection for the knees and femurs of both the driver and front passenger. BYD demonstrated that occupants of varying sizes and seating positions would receive a similar level of protection.
Analysis of the impact trolley’s deceleration and the post-test condition of the deformable barrier suggested that the Sealion 7 would be a moderately benign collision partner in frontal impacts. In the full-width rigid barrier test, chest protection for the rear passenger was rated as weak due to measured compression levels. However, the driver received good protection across all critical body areas.

In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact test, the Sealion 7 provided good protection to all critical body areas, earning maximum points in this category. Excursion control—the extent to which the body moves across the cabin during a far-side impact—was rated as adequate.
The center airbag, designed to reduce injuries from occupant-to-occupant contact in side impacts, performed well in Euro NCAP testing, offering good head protection for both front-seat occupants. Tests on the front seats and head restraints showed good protection against whiplash injuries in rear-end collisions. A geometric analysis of the rear seats also indicated strong whiplash protection.
The Sealion 7 is equipped with an advanced eCall system that automatically alerts emergency services following a crash. Additionally, it features a post-impact braking system to help prevent secondary collisions.

BYD Sealion 7: Child Occupant Protection
In both the frontal offset and side barrier tests, the SEALION 7 provided good protection to all critical body regions for both the 10-year-old and 6-year-old child dummies, earning maximum points in this part of the evaluation. The front passenger airbag can be deactivated to safely accommodate a rearward-facing child restraint in that seat. The system clearly informs the driver of the airbag’s status and is credited accordingly.
All child restraint systems for which the vehicle is designed could be correctly installed and properly accommodated. Additionally, the SEALION 7 features a direct child presence detection system, which issues a warning if a child or infant is detected inside the vehicle after the driver has exited.
BYD Sealion 7: Safety equipment
Euro NCAP tested the Comfort variant of Sealion 7 which comes equipped with as many as 12 airbags. Further, the crash test unit was equipped with advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking (AEB), speed assistance, lane assist system, and driver fatigue detection.
