BMW has launched the most affordable M Performance machine— M2— in India in an updated avatar. But before you stress on affordability, the new M2 is priced at Rs 1.03 crore (ex-showroom), a premium of Rs 5 lakh over the outgoing model. The compact sports car comes to India as a fully-imported CBU model and hence the hefty price tag.

This comes in the backdrop of the new M5 launched in India last week. The M2 is based on the 2 Series Gran Coupe which is already on sale in India. In its new avatar, the M2 gets minor styling tweaks, new colours, additional features, and more power.

BMW M2: Exterior updates

The design of the updated BMW M2 remains largely unchanged but gets minor cosmetic tweaks which could only be spotted by a keen eye. For instance, in its latest iteration the M2 gets black exhaust tailpipes as standard, while the BMW M2 logo at the front and rear now comes in black with a silver surround.

In terms of features, the M2 benefits from BMW’s new curved display housing a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The system runs BMW’s operating system 8.5 and comes with the latest gen BMW iDrive system.

BMW M2: Powertrain updates

The highlight of any BMW M car lies under the hood. In this case, the M2 gets the same 3.0-litre straight six, turbocharged petrol engine which can be had with either an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox. However,  this motor now pumps out 474 bhp and 600 Nm (550 Nm in manual) of peak torque, an increase of 20 horses and 50 Nm.

With this increased output, the BMW M2 can breach the 0-100 kmph in 0.1 seconds quicker. The coupe sports car can achieve the same in just 4.0 seconds with the automatic gearbox and 4.2 seconds with the manual transmission. Top speed is limited to 250 kmph which can be increased to 285 kmph by opting for the M Driver’s package.
