Hot on the heels of the launch of Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, coupe Mercedes also told us that they would follow the GT up with a four-door sedan set to replace the CLS63 AMG. The sedan which is set to make its public debut at the American International Auto Show early 2018 in Detroit USA, will be the fourth model to join the AMG GT series after the GT, AMG GT-R and the AMG GT C roadster. Meanwhile, roving eyes in the USA, have spied the AMG GT sedan test mule with some production-ready parts, showing that the car is ready to hit the auto show early next year.
Now the GT-sedan concept was first seen in concept form at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and while it did have four doors, the sedan retained all essential characteristics of GT-family. The four-door performance sedan will share its platform with the Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan. It is likely to borrow some of its styling cues and features from the Executive sedan. More so on the inside. However very little is clear until we actually see the car in the flesh at Detroit.
Up front the AMG GT sedan is almost entirely production ready, it will get the Mercedes-Benz signature LED headlamps and J pattern DRL. The sedan will also get the vertical slatted Panamericana grille from the GT along with more sporty bumpers and larger intakes. However, the rest is left to the imagination courtesy the camouflage.
Under the hood, the upcoming Mercedes AMG GT four-door sedan is likely to feature a 4.0-litre twin-scroll turbo V8 that is likely to make about 510 horsepower and 650Nm of peak torque. Depending on Mercedes’ strategy might even get a hybrid-powered unit that makes about 800 hp. However this is likely to launch as a separate model after the GT sedan,
