4 reasons why tyre rotation is important

A car maintenance checklist typically includes all vehicle components except the tyres. Find out how rotating tyres can enhance both mileage and the quality of the ride.

Repeatedly, we neglect to inspect the condition of our tyres, despite the fact that they are the only part of a vehicle in direct contact with the road. Astonishingly, even during routine maintenance checks, many of us ignore the service centre’s advice to rotate the tyres or perform a wheel alignment.

Following are the reasons why tyre rotation is critical.

1. Keep tyre trends even

One thing to keep an eye on is an equal tread wearing of each tyre. The front tyres tend to even out faster due to the weight of the engine. Also with the steering wheel, the front wheels change direction based on the road, hence, that too adds to reducing the tyre treads. Due to shallow treads, the tyres will tend to lose grip, especially in wet road conditions. By rotation, the tyres also ensure better acceleration and bring the vehicle to a halt.

2. Extend tyre life

Rotating tyres will ensure that they last longer and in the long run, it is cost-effective. The lack of rotating them will lead to damaging one or two tyres forcing you to change them. Buying a single or a couple of tyres is usually more expensive than buying an entire set is more economical.

3. Better stability

Regularly rotated tyres offer a better balance to a vehicle. This leads to better handling traits and a more comfortable ride quality. The balance also helps in steering wheel alignment which ensures the car takes turns accurately. This makes the car unsafe to drive.

4. Improves mileage

Proper tyre maintenance and rotation help in improving the vehicle’s fuel economy. With a steady balance and recommended tyre pressure by the car manufacturer, there is low rolling resistance which lets the engine smoothly without any additional effort.
