Mahindra Thar is one of the most desired vehicles in India for its superior off-roading capabilities. In the past couple of years, many EVs, especially electric two-wheelers have blown up to flames, raising question marks about their battery composition and thermal management.
A recent video on YouTube shows a Thar catching fire in Rajasthan. The video has been shared by vlogger Prateek Singh on his YouTube channel. The Thar in discussion here is a white coloured 4×4 diesel variant which was delivered to the buyer in October and caught fire three months later in January.
Mahindra Thar catches fire
The owner has shared details of the ordeal to the vlogger, mentioning that he was casually driving the car when he noticed a power drop. He stopped the car to inspect the cause and noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet. Within minutes, the whole car caught fire. The vlogger further reveals the owner’s experience of his Thar where the check engine light turned on twice.
The owner says that on the first instance of the check engine light going off, he reported it to Mahindra service authorities who didn’t take it seriously. The second time it happened moments before the SUV blew up in flames. The owner claims that he hadn’t installed any aftermarket accessories on his Thar which compromises the warranty.
However, he did add some accessories from the dealership. After the fire, the owner informed the dealership and the insurance company, but both are yet to respond. This is the second instance of a Thar catching fire in recent times. In a separate instance, a Thar in Haryana also caught fire and both the insurance company and the dealership backed out from providing any assistance to the owner.
