Launch of the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is around the corners. The latest iteration of the hatchback made its debut at the Japan Mobility Show in November 2023 and is likely to go on sale in India in the coming few weeks. Test mules of the new-gen Swift have been spied on multiple occasions– both on foreign and Indian soils.

The fourth-gen Swift’s launch will be followed by the new Dzire which has been spotted testing for the first time. Internally codenamed YED, these are the first set of spy images of the compact sedan to surface on the internet. The images show a test unit of the new Dzire completely clad in camouflage undergoing trial runs.

2024 Maruti Dzire spied: What to expect?

While it is very hard to predict the styling details from the fully camouflaged test unit, the spy shots suggest that the upcoming Dzire is expected to remain similar to the current model. Since it is based on the same platform as the new-gen Swift, many of the elements in the new Dzire including side panels, front and rear fenders have been borrowed from its hatchback sibling.

The rear end wears a very different look with different taillights on offer. The test mule rolls on 16-inch all-black spoke alloy wheels. Visual highlights of the front face are yet to be conceived but it is expected to remain similar to the upcoming Swift.

Compared to the current model, the upcoming Dzire gets a slightly flatter roofline and larger rear glass. Like the outgoing model, the rear boot design seems to be flattish, in order to optimise the boot with maximum volume. That said, overall dimensions of the upcoming Dzire are likely to be similar to the current sedan since the platform will remain largely unchanged.

Details regarding features and engine specifications are unknown at the moment. The current model is powered by a 1.2-litre K12 Dual-jet VVT petrol engine that pushes out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque. However, this engine is most likely to be replaced by the new 1.2-litre Z-series engine that will make its debut in the new-gen Swift.

The new 3-cylinder petrol unit churns out 82 bhp and 108 Nm of torque. Expect this motor to be paired with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. There is no confirmation on the exact launch timeline of the new Dzire but it could hit the market in the middle of this year after the launch of the new Swift.
