Volvo has launched the second generation XC60 SUV in India at Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 2018 edition will take most of its design cues from its siblings the XC90 and the S90 and will share the Volvo SPA or scalable product architecture platform. The SUV is available in one single variant, the ‘Inscription’ and will be manufactured locally at Volvo’s Bangalore manufacturing plant. The motor on the, the new XC60 is the 2.0-litre engine that does duty on Volvos’s larger SUV, the XC90. The engine makes a total of 235 hp of power and 480nm of torque and will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel-drive system as standard. Volvo has said that they will launch the T6 petrol engine and T8 petrol hybrid motor in the XC60 at later stages. The SUV comes with a five drive modes-Eco, Comfort, off-road, Dynamic and Individual. Inside the cabin, the SUV gets features such as touch-screen infotainment system compatible with in-built navigation and supports both Apple Car Play and Google’s Android Auto.

The Volvo has given the XC60 SUV a Bowers & Wilkins music system with 15 speakers, with seats made of Nappa leather. The front seats will be actuated electronically with memory functions as is standard with a panoramic Sunroof. The XC60 gets an active and passive safety features such as six airbags, Emergency brake assist, Hill start assist, Heads up display and Pilot assist. The XC60 comes equipped with radar-based safety features like other Volvo cars in India. Dimensionally the SUV measures 4,688 mm in length, 1,902 mm in width, 1,658 in height and has a wheelbase of 2,865mm. The SUV is available in four colours-Pine grey, Crystal white,Black Max and Havana Brown
The XC60 is likely to go up against the likes of the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC both of which have a strong following in India. Although it might be considered a bargain.
