2018 Fisker E-Motion Concept: This Tesla rival might get ahead without using lithium-ion batteries

The Fisker car is not so significant in terms of independent product, but more so in terms of the alternative battery technology for the future

2018 Fisker E-Motion Concept: This Tesla rival might get ahead without using lithium-ion batteries

Henrik Fisker and his upcoming electric car have been in the news every now and then over the last couple of years, as being one of the possible Tesla rivals. With only a few days to go ahead of its official public debut at CES 2018 in Las Vegas on Tuesday, company frontman has “leaked” a few images to give the world a little bit of teaser ahead of the debut. Since from the very start, Fisker has compared their car to the Tesla Model S. For those not in the know Tesla Model S supercar is sort of the poster boy for future e-mobility with a usable range and supercar shaming performance. Aside from the performance which we still know nothing about it would appear that Fisker has got out of his way to push the limits of the design of his cars. For one, since EVs don’t have an engine in the nose, the concept of the front grille becomes entirely redundant, and Fisker has used that a slightly out-of-the-box motif, with a small ‘nose’ looking thing that houses the car LiDar guidance system. And they’d better work because breaking your radiator seems like something your local mechanic can do, try asking him to fix your Lidar system. The rest of the front is marked by a short stubby bonnet. The doors have an interesting mix of opening technology, the front doors open Lamborghini style in butterfly formation, while the back doors go gull-wing. I mean the Fisker is a phenomenal looking car, but I don’t understand why EV manufacturers always go with the overkill when it comes to doors.

However, thankfully, the fact that Fisker did open his weirdly opening doors, we know, that the Fisker Emotion will get four seats. The grapevine also says that the E-motion will also get a phenomenal range of 640 km on a single charge. However, perhaps the key feature on the Fiskers list is the fact that 125 miles of charge in 9 minutes from their solid-state batteries. This is also the first prototype of its kind that will use Solid state batteries instead of the traditional lithium-ion units on most EVs.
