As the country is boiling under repeated heat waves, driving can be quite a task as the blazing heat shoots up the cabin temperature. With 45 degrees now the new 40 degrees, sitting inside the car is like getting inside an oven. Here are some simple hacks and guidelines one can follow to keep the car cool.
Sunroof offers better air ventilation
Sunroofs do more for a car than just make it look good. However, it is extremely unsafe and against the law to poke your head out of it, and we cannot stress this enough. The sunroof’s primary use is to increase the cabin’s ventilation. Better air circulation is made possible by opening the sunroof, which also quickly dissipates hot air faster than the windows. In order to prevent direct sunlight from entering the cabin, one can also have the sunroof darkened. The windows and sunroof of newer models can be opened with the aid of a key fob thanks to a connected technology suite included in them.
Crack open the windows
Keeping the windows slightly open is another easy way to make sure the cabin has adequate ventilation. In this manner, even when the automobile is parked for the whole day, the heat within the cabin is expelled. Leaving a one-finger window space for circulation is the cheat rule in this case. With the windows partly open, this ensures that there is no greenhouse effect within the cabin. For security purposes, we also advise keeping an eye on the area where the car is parked. Keeping an eye on the weather forecast will be beneficial because you don’t want to leave the windows open if rain is predicted.
Use windshield sunshade
Although tinted windows are prohibited, there is still another easy option to block out direct sun rays. The car’s cabin temperature rises as a result of the windshield’s wide glass surface absorbing a lot of heat. To cover the vehicle from the sun’s damaging UV rays, there are foldable reflective windscreen sunshades available. The dashboard, gear lever, seats and—most importantly—the seats themselves are all kept cool by an efficient windscreen.
Push out hot air from cabin
Although it seems extremely basic, we have tried this and it is effective. This is not a folktale from the past. Open one window, cross to the other side, and repeatedly open and close it on that side. You can apply the same technique by opening and shutting the tailgate frequently. It swiftly expels the heated air from the cabin in this manner.
Park in the shade or a garage
Some may argue that this is common sense, and we agree, but we end up wondering if the distance to this specific parking space is too far. As a result, we had to park the car in the open, forcing us to walk the extra distance. Parking in the shadow protects the car’s outside paint, upholstery, and, most significantly, ensures that the cabin temperature does not exceed the outside temperature.
