Harley-Davidson added two new softail motorcycles to the line-up today, but that was not the biggest news out of Harely Davidson today. The premium American motorcycle manufacturer announced huge dial-backs on the prices of their imported touring and CVO line ups with upto than 3.7 lakh being offered in the form of discount prices. The massive price rebate comes from reduction in import duties on Completely Built Up motorcycles (CBUs). Now while Harley does either manufacture and assemble most bikes like the Harley Davidson Street 750 in India, these 4 motorcycles from the premium range are imported through the CBU route. The governments recent announcement for rebate in CBU taxation from 75-50 per cent, has a been at the centre of this massive shift in prices.

According to a release shared by the company, their entire Touring and CVO line-up has been re-positioned in terms of price. The Road King, which earlier retailed for a price of Rs 28,37,000 will now be available at Rs 24,99,000 lakh.Rs 3.38 lakh cheaper than the previous retail mark.. The Street Glide which is slightly premium to the RoadKing used to retail for 33,50,000 while it will now sell at 29,99,00; Rs 3. 5 lakh. The Road Glide Special which used to cost Rs 35,61,000 has been revised to Rs 32,99,000; Rs 2.62 lakh cheaper than before. Meanwhile the most significant drop in Harley Davidson prices comes from the range topping CVO motorcycle which drops from an initial price of Rs 53,72,000 all the way to 49,99,000. At Rs 3. 73 lakh cheaper this will be the biggest price drop through Harley-Davidson’s India new-revised portfolio.
The announcements on raising the price of CKD motorcycles, while depreciating the duties on CBUs were met by outrage from the US President Donald Trump. Who said that he will respond by taxing, the thousands and thousands of motorcycles that go from India to the US. (We checked and the total number of Indian bikes that make it US shores is (much) less than 5 thousand bikes a month. Although in light of this news, he might want to reconsider his stance.
