Triumph Motorcycles has been testing the upcoming Thruxton 400 in India for a while now, and a recent video reveals the café racer in action. What’s noteworthy is that the bike was not camouflaged and appeared to be production-ready. Currently, Triumph offers two 400cc models — the Speed 400 and 400X —and the new Thruxton 400 is expected to be priced below the 400X.
Triumph Thruxton 400: Design
As a café racer, the Thruxton 400 features an aggressive riding stance with a fairing-mounted on LED headlight and a windscreen, clip-on handlebars, signature bar-end mirrors, and a swept-up exhaust. The front end takes inspiration from 1960s café racers, which were influenced by fighter jets of that era. The rest of the bike, however, retains a design closely resembling the Speed 400.
Triumph Thruxton 400: Expected Specs
The Thruxton 400 will share its powertrain with the Speed 400, featuring the same 398cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This engine, which produces 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm in the Speed 400. Power will be delivered through a 6-speed gearbox, paired with a slip and assist clutch and ride-by-wire throttle.
Triumph Thruxton 400: Hardware
Built on the same hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame as the Speed 400 and Speed 400X, the Thruxton 400 is expected to feature 43mm telescopic front forks with 140mm of wheel travel and a rear mono-shock with 120mm travel. The café racer will likely be equipped with a 300mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc, both with dual-channel ABS. For instrumentation, it will come with an analogue speedometer complemented by an integrated multi-function LCD screen.
