Triumph Motorcycles has updated the Speed 400 and launched the 2024 model at an ex-showroom price of Rs 2.40 lakh. The new Triumph roadster is priced Rs 7000 higher than its predecessor. It now competes directly with the newly debuted Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. The Guerrilla 450 comes in three variants, with prices beginning at Rs 2.39 lakh, ex-showroom. A specification comparison of the two motorcycles follows, determining which offers better value for money.

The Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15 cc liquid-cooled 4-valve engine with an output of 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 37.5 Nm at 6500 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox with a torque-assist clutch.

The Guerrilla 450, on the other hand, comes with 452 cc a liquid-cooled powertrain which produces 39.5 bhp at 8000 rpm and 40 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. It is mated to a six-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.

The Speed 400 is based on a hybrid spine/perimeter tubular steel frame with 43 mm USD telescopic front forks with 130 mm travel while the rear is equipped with a monoshock with 120 mm travel. In terms of dimensions, the 2024 version is now 9 mm longer than the older model as the wheelbase is now 1386 mm. The width of the handlebar is increased from 814 mm to 829 mm and it is taller by 12 mm as the height is 1096 mm. 

The updated Speed 400 comes with new Vredestein Centauro tyres and Triumph has upsized tyres with 110/80-17 in front and 150/70-17 at the rear. It continues with a 300 mm front brake and 230 mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. 

The Guerrilla, on the other hand, is based on the tubular frame like the Himalayan but with a different rear sub-frame. The Guerrilla has 43 mm front forks with 140 mm travel and a rear mono-shock with 150 mm travel. The Royal Enfield motorcycle has a 310 mm front disc brake and a 270 mm disc at the rear. It rides on 17-inch wheels with a 120/70 section in front and a 160/60 section at the rear. Like the Speed 400, the Guerrilla 450 comes standard with a dual-channel ABS.

The Speed 400 sports all LED illumination with Daylight Running Light (DRL), a taller saddle with additional comfort, adjustable levers, a Type-C port, ride-by-wire throttle and switchable traction control. The new Speed 400 is available in 4 colours – Racing Yellow, Pearl Metallic White, Racing Red and Phantom Black. The instrument cluster has an analogue speedometer with an LCD screen that reads the fuel gauge, tachometer, gear indicator and turn-by-turn navigation system. The Speed only comes in a single variant.

Royal Enfield offers the Guerrilla in three trims — Analogue, Dash and Flash. The entry-level variant gets a semi-analogue meter with a multi-information display with a fuel gauge, trip meter and odometer. As an optional feature, it also comes with a navigation Tripper pod that can be connected to the mobile phone. The top model sports an all-digital TFT instrument console with inbuilt Google Maps and smartphone connectivity.
