Triumph Motorcycles has launched the Thruxton 400 at a price of Rs 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the third 400cc Triumph model to launch in India after Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 XC (not including Speed T4 and Scrambler 400 XC which are essentially different variants of respective models).
As expected, the smallest cafe racer in the Thruxton lineup shares a lot of commonalities with its other two 400cc siblings. Obviously, the biggest highlight of the Thruxton 400 is its design and its test mules spotted on multiple occasions in recent months have given us a fair idea about the bike’s design.
Triumph Thruxton 400: Design
The design of Thruxton 400 takes inspiration from its larger cafe racers, especially the Thruxton 1200. The most distinct visual highlight of the motorcycle is the faired body up front with an integrated front apron and windscreen. It gets a circular LED headlight with indicators tucked beneath the semi-fairing. As seen in the contemporary cafe racers, the Thruxton 400 gets bar-end mirrors as standard.

Other distinct visual highlights include a sculpted fuel tank boasting the Triumph triangle badge, a lowered clip-on handlebar, a colour-coded bullet seat cowl, shortened rear mudguard and number plate hanger. The upswept exhaust muffler has been carried over from the Speed 400.
Among the 400cc Triumph range,Thruxton 400 gets the sportiest riding ergonomics with rear-set footpegs. The new clip-on handlebars are 40mm narrower and 246mm lower than those on the Speed 400, while the rear-set footpegs are positioned 86mm further back and 27mm higher. This pushes the rider forward, creating a true cafe racer riding posture.
Triumph is offering four dual-tone colour schemes with the Thruxton 400 namely Lava Red Gloss with Aluminum Silver; Pearl Metallic White with Storm Grey; Metallic Racing Yellow with Aluminum Silver; and finally Phantom Black with Aluminum Silver. These shades are complemented by some snazzy body graphics and a Matt Phantom Black side panel carrying an aluminium finish badge bearing the Thruxton name.

Triumph Thruxton 400: Specs & Features
While the chassis is the same as Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, the suspension of the Thruxton 400 is said to be heavily reworked to provide a sharper, more responsive feel. The bike sits on 43mm upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are carried out by 300mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes aided by dual-channel ABS. The bike rolls on 17-inch wheels shod with Apollo Alpha H1 tyres.
In terms of features, it gets an integrated analogue speedometer along with an LCD display USB-C charging port, and switchable traction control. Powering the Triumph Thruxton is a familiar 398cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, 4 valve, DOHC engine paired with a 6-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch. However, in this case, the motor gets a sportier state of tune dishing out 41.4 bhp and 37.5 Nm of peak torque.
