We have seen the adventure motorcycle segment gain popularity in recent times, and after EICMA last year, this year was predicted to be the year of adventure motorcycles given that Hero, BMW, TVS, CFMoto and others have showcased capable motorcycles that will soon come to India. However, if the wait for them seems too long, here are three adventure motorcycles under Rs 4 lakh you can pick that are capable off-roaders as well.
Best adventure motorcycles under Rs 4 lakh
KTM 390 Adventure
Price: Rs 3.66 lakh ex-showroom

The launch of the new KTM Adventure range was so relieving in many ways, as the name finally suits a motorcycle. The 390 Adventure is a capable motorcycle which gets a potent 45bhp engine mated to a six-speed gearbox with a quickshifter. The motorcycle gets other electronic aids such as lean-sensitive traction control and ABS, ride modes, adjustable suspension at both ends, tubeless wire-spoke wheels, and a TFT dash amongst others.
Royal Enfield Himalayan
Price: Rs 2.85 lakh ex-showroom

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is the company’s first major step towards a modern engine and a proper off-road tourer. Built around a new liquid-cooled 40bhp engine, the Himalayan gets optional tubeless wire-spoke wheels, long travel suspension, ride modes, a TFT instrument console with phone connectivity, dual-channel ABS, disc brakes at both ends, and a comfortable ride. The Himalayan does not feature an extensive suite of electronic aids like the KTM, but at the same time, it is a capable off-roader when the tarmac ends.
Kawasaki Versys-X 300
Price: Rs 3.8 lakh ex-showroom

The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is the newest in the segment, bringing a mix between the capabilities of the Versys and the heart of the Ninja in a capable package. While the new Kawasaki Versys-X 300 costs almost Rs 1 lakh more than the Himalayan, it keeps things simple — telescopic forks, a semi-digital instrument console with no phone connectivity, and no ride modes. However, it has the essentials — long travel suspension, wire-spoke wheels, a 39bhp twin-cylinder engine, and a narrow profile.
