A sidecar attached to a motorcycle remains an iconic pairing for film and auto buffs ever since Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan were seen gracing the silver screen with one in the all-time blockbuster Sholay. Although a rare sight today, a two-wheeler with a sidecar always draws attention on roads.

And there’s no better match than a Royal Enfield with a sidecar thanks to the brand’s modern classic design language which is timeless. Watsonian Sidecars has now designed a sidecar for the Interceptor 650 which according to them is for the “adventurous”. Not just the sidecar, the UK-based aftermarket workshop has made some other modifications to the motorcycle as well.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 with “Grand Prix”

The rig paired to the parallel-twin motorcycle is Watsonian’s “Grand Prix” model of a sidecar and it has been “designed for riders who want to cover distances and maximise luggage carrying capacity”. The first thing you notice is the Nardo Grey paint sprayed professionally over the sidecar as well as the motorcycle. Further, the sidecar has been treated with enhancements such as non-standard black alloy beading, screen surround, perimeter frame bumper and wheel rim.

Since it’s meant for adventurous riders, the Interceptor has been equipped with Heidenau enduro tyres to give the bike go anywhere ability. Other notable additions to the bike include a fly screen, handguards and a headlight grille that accentuate the bike’s rugged appearance. The sidecar also features several specially-designed accessories;

  • A pair of 5-litre jerry cans, mounted in carriers that are bolted to brackets on the sidecar frame
  • Spotlight, wired into a switch on the handlebars
  • Extra large front luggage rack
  • Two extra large rear luggage racks
  • Twin 12V sockets with a map reading light in one
  • Passenger grab rail
  • Block pattern Kenda tyre

Customers interested in owning something similar can supply their own motorcycle for this mod job, but Watsonian could also buy a brand new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 to build the same in the Grand Prix outfit. Prices for this customisation starts at £17,995 (approx. Rs 20,87,400).
