Royal Enfield has confirmed that the new updated Scram 440 will make its debut in January 2025. The two-wheeler manufacturer showcased the Scram 440 recently at Motoverse 2024 in Goa. We take a look at Royal Enfield’s off-road lineup, the Scram 440 and the Himalayan 450.

Royal Enfield has replaced the 411 cc engine with a 440 cc in the Scram. By increasing the bore by 3 mm, Royal Enfield claims the power output has increased by up to 4.5 per cent and torque by 6.5 per cent making the torque more accessible at low revs. The 443 cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine churns out 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Royal Enfield has replaced the 5-speed gearbox with a new 6-speed and a new lighter clutch.

The Himalayan gets an all-new 452 cc liquid-cooled engine producing 39.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 40 Nm at 5,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch and ride-by-wire system. While the Himalayan is a hardcore motorcycle for off-roading, the Scram is a more versatile option to tackle both the city and explore the road less travelled. The Himalayan 450 gets two ride modes — Eco and Performance.

Royal Enfield Scram 440 vs Himalayan 450: Hardware

The Scram 440 will be available in both alloy and spoke wheels with 19-inch rims in front and 17-inch at the rear. It sports 300 mm front disc brakes and 240 mm rear disc with an accessible seat height of 790 mm and 200 mm of ground clearance. The Scram gets 41 mm telescopic front forks with a wheel travel of 190 mm and a rear mono shock with 180 mm of travel.

Royal Enfield has updated the Scram 440 with new features like LED headlights and tail lamps but retains bulbs for indicators. It will now offer dual-channel ABS, which can switched off. Apart from this, one can opt for a Google-based Tripper pod turn-by-turn navigation system and a USB charging port.  

The Himalayan get a more premium 43 mm upside-down front forks with 200 mm travel and a rear mono shock with again 200 mm travel. Being an off-roader, it has a ground clearance of 230 mm, a seat height of 825 mm that can be increased to 845 mm, 21-inch from wheels and 17-inch at the rear and switchable dual channel ABS. The Himalayan gets 320 mm front disc brake and 270 mm rear disc. 

The off-road machine is packed with features like a 4-inch display with Bluetooth connectivity, a map navigation system powered by Google Maps, all LED lights including headlights, tail lamps and indicators and a Type-C charging port.
