Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 rival: Welcome BSA Scrambler 650

BSA Scrambler 650 is based on the same platform as the Gold Star 650 that has been on sale in India for almost a year.

Scramblers aren’t a typical choice for riders in India but in recent years, the segment has carved out a niche segment of buyers who love to do long journeys on occasional bad patches, but aren’t willing to invest in a proper adventure tourer. Here’s where scramblers come in to fill the gap.

Classic Legends has officially taken the covers of the BSA Scrambler 650 in the United Kingdom. It was previously showcased as the B65 concept in November last year as a pre-production prototype. Registrations for the bike have opened in Britain alongside the BSA Bantam 650.

BSA Scrambler 650: Design

Starting with its looks, the Scrambler 650 gets a more rugged appearance as expected with the shorter front and rear fenders, a small front beak, a slimmer grab rail, and a flatter bench seat with a ribbed pattern. In addition, it also gets a headlight grille which is most likely to be offered as an accessory. The side panel wears a scrambler-style plate with the number ‘65’ embossed.

Further, the upswept long exhaust canister is covered with an aluminium sheet. The bike is wrapped in dual-tone colour schemes with the mechanical component given an all-black treatment for sporty aesthetics. The overall design looks very familiar to the B65 concept showcased a few months back.

BSA Scrambler 650: Mechanical Specifications

As mentioned previously, the Scrambler 650 shares its underpinnings with the Gold Star. Hence, it is based on a double cradle frame with 41 mm front telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload. However, differentiating the Scrambler from the Gold Star is a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear spoke wheels shod with knobby Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres.

Braking duties are carried out by 320mm front and 255mm rear disc aided by dual-channel ABS. Moreover, the Scrambler 650  weighs 218 kg (kerb) whereas it gets a fuel tank with a 12-litre capacity. Seat height remains accessible at 820mm, nearly 40 mm more than Gold Star. Powering the BSA Scrambler is a familiar 650cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder unit that makes 46bhp and 55 Nm of peak torque with the help of a 5-speed gearbox via a slip and assist clutch.

Classic Legends, owner of the BSA brand, is yet to confirm if and when the Scrambler 650 will come to India. However, given Royal Enfield entered this space with the Interceptor Bear 650 earlier this year, it might just prompt Classic Legends to take a leap of faith with this one.
