It seems that Ola Electric just can’t catch a break. After being in the news for its dealerships not having valid trade certifications in March, the Maharashtra Government has decided to crack the whip and has ordered regional transport offices shut down such outlets.

Why are Ola Electric showrooms under the scanner?

According to a report by NDTV Profit, Maharashtra’s joint transport commissioner sent a show cause notice to RTOs saying to shut down Ola Electric’s stores and service centres that are plying without a valid trade certificate. The Bengaluru-based EV company replied to the NDTV’s email query stating, “Your claims regarding our stores in Maharashtra are speculative, incorrect and misplaced. We continue to work closely with the concerned authorities in Maharashtra to address any specific queries or concerns.”

Based on the report, RTO authorities found that of 146 Ola Electric outlets, 121 were operating without valid certificates and 75 were forced to shut down.

In March 2025, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik began a crackdown on dealers and showrooms for not having valid trade certifications. During this inception over 450 stores of Ola Electric were found violating this rule. According to reports, some stores in Mumbai and Pune didn’t have the certification or were sharing it. According to the Central Motor Vehicles Act, all dealerships must have a business certificate for the sale and distribution of vehicles and the trade certificate has to visibly displayed. According to the authorities, all these rules were violated.
