The iconic British two-wheeler company has registered the trademark of the ‘Electra’ name in India. Here’s a hint before you get all excited: it’s not Royal Enfield bringing back the Electra nameplate. Rather, it’s the TVS Motor-owned Norton is gearing up to make its India debut. The Electra could be the third motorcycle to be powered by the new 450cc engine, which is made in the Hosur manufacturing plant. The other two will be the parent company, TVS, and BMW Motorrad India.

Norton Electra: What to expect?

The Norton Electra is a retro motorcycle and will take on Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 and the Triumph Speed 400. Recently, in an interview, Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor, revealed that the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer, along with Norton, will share the new 450cc liquid-cooled engine. TVS had last year announced that it plans to flood the Indian market with six Norton motorcycles in the next 3 years.

The original Norton Electra made its debut way back in the 1960s and was powered by a 400cc twin-cylinder engine. The 2025-26 Electra could be the entry-level motorcycle for the Norton portfolio and could break cover at EICMA 2025 in Milan.

Norton: Current lineup

The two-wheeler company currently sells the Commando 961, the V4SV, and the V4CR in the UK. The Commando is powered by an air-cooled 961cc parallel-twin producing 75 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 81 Nm of torque at 6,300 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with twin Brembo 320mm discs in front and a 240 mm rear disc.

The V4CR is a café racer that actually looks more like a naked sports bike. It comes with a 1200cc, 72-degree liquid-cooled V4 engine, which has been optimised to produce 185bhp at 12,500rpm and 125Nm of torque at 9,000rpm.

The V4SV is Norton’s flagship superbike and is powered by the same 1200cc, 72-degree liquid-cooled V4 engine available in the V4CR. It has only the best hardware available in the market, like Ohlins dampers, carbon fibre wheels and an aluminium tubular chassis. The V4SV is specifically developed and crafted from TT race bikes.
