Bajaj Dominar is one of its kind motorcycles in the Indian market. A modern power cruiser, it was originally designed as a rival to the Mahindra Mojo. Despite favourable reviews, the Bajaj Dominar could not set the sales chart on fire. Plus, expansion of the Pulsar lineup with new 250cc and 400cc models hasn’t helped the Dominar’s case.

Moreover, the Dominar range– the 400cc and 250cc models— hasn’t seen any significant update over the past few years, apart from new colour schemes and some additional features in its kitty. In this regard, Dominar has received a stepson-like treatment from Bajaj. However, things are expected to change for Dominar as a major update is expected soon.

New-gen Bajaj Dominar 400: What to expect?

According to a report by Autocar India, Bajaj is working on a new generation Dominar 400. Based on underpinnings borrowed from KTM, the current Dominar 400 offered much better performance than any of the Pulsars on offer. The Dominar 400 was originally intended to take on 350cc models from Royal Enfield but they were completely different from each other in their identities. Hence, it didn’t bring any dent to Royal Enfield’s market, as the latter continues to roar.

The Dominar range was primarily aimed at motorcyclists who love to venture out for long distance touring and in this regard, Dominar is simply a hoot. The only challenge came with the daily commutes, on bustling city traffic due to its heavy weight. The Dominar 400 weighs a hefty 193 kg (kerb). In all probability, the new-gen Dominar 400 will be underpinned by a brand new platform

New-gen Bajaj Dominar 400: Specs & features

Powering the new-gen Bajaj Dominar 400 will be the same  373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor as the current model, developing 39.5 bhp and 35 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

Bajaj could try to reduce the weight of the bike. This could happen by employing new alloy wheels by replacing the diamond-cut units on the current model. Another major weight reduction could be using a box-type swingarm instead of the cast-aluminium unit on the present model. An underbelly exhaust instead of the stubby unit in the existing model, could further bring down the weight of the bike.

The new Dominar 400 is expected to remain Bajaj’s flagship model and hence it is expected to boast of an extensive equipment consisting of features like a fully-digital TFT instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, ride-by-wire throttle, switchable traction control system, and multiple ride modes.

There is still a lot of ambiguity regarding the new-gen Dominar but we expect more details about the same in the coming months. When launched, it will take on the likes of Hero Maverick 400, and Triumph Speed 400 although it is likely to be priced higher than both these models.
