New Kinetic electric scooter patent filed — launch on cards?

The new electric scooter has been patented by Kinetic Watts and Volts, a subsidiary of Kinetic Green.

Kinetic was a household name back in the 1970s to early 2000s. Once a king of India’s two-wheeler industry, the brand died a quiet death with the advent of more modern scooters in the early 21st century. The company was re-incarnated as Kinetic Green with the focus on manufacturing only electric two-wheelers.

The first launch from Kinetic in its new avatar was the e-Luna, a fully-electric moped inspired by the famous Luna. It now seems Kinetic is gearing up to launch its next electric two-wheeler in the market. The Pune-based company has filed a patent for its upcoming battery-powered scooter and it brings back a sense of nostalgia.

Kinetic e-scooter: A homage to Kinetic Honda ZX

The patent image brings back memories of the old Kinetic Honda ZX scooter that was on sale in the 1990s and early 2000s. For the uninitiated, Kinetic was Honda’s first official partner in India before it joined hands with Hero. The Kinetic and Honda partnership led to the birth of the ZX which was an extremely successful scooter.

Powered by a 98cc, two-stroke petrol engine, it was also the very first scooter to come with an automatic transmission. The first look at the patent, the design inspiration from the ZX is clearly evident. A flat front apron, a rectangular headlamp cowl mounted on the handlebar, and a flat bench seat, all hark back to the OG Kinetic Honda scooter. And like the ZX, the upcoming scooter will get a small flyscreen with “Kinetic” written on it.

Even the rear section, including the side rear fenders, is uncannily similar to the Kinetic Honda ZX. The major change seen in this patent is the absence of a spare wheel mounted at the rear, which was a signature design highlight for the Kinetic Honda ZX. In its place, the electric scooter gets a thick grab-handle that looks very contemporary.

There are no other details available at this point in time but a closer look at the patent reveals some critical details about the upcoming battery-powered scooter. For instance, It features telescopic front forks, replacing the trailing link front suspension used by its predecessor. The scooter seems to ride on 12-inch alloy wheels, with a disc brake visibly mounted behind the front wheel.

Kinetic Green’s current lineup includes the E-Luna, priced between Rs 69,990 and Rs 82,490, along with a few electric scooters sourced from Chinese manufacturers. We expect more details about the upcoming electric scooter in the coming months.
