German bike maker BMW has been spotted testing the new R 1300 RT in Europe, the motorcycle which will replace the R 1250 RT from the motorcycle maker’s current lineup. The new motorcycle gets updated mechanically and in terms of looks, and the latest spy pics show us a few details. Here’s a closer look at the upcoming BMW R 1300 RT.
New BMW R 1300 RT — What are the updates?
Let’s start with the design — the new R 1300 RT gets a redesigned front fairing with a smaller headlight setup with DRLs on either side. The next notable change is the front visor, which is more squarish and made to suit the new headlight design. The overall design looks identical, but the fairing is more squarish compared to the current BMW R 1250 RT.
The next big change is of course the engine, and as the name suggests, the motorcycle will be powered by the new 1300cc engine that does its duty on the R 1300 GS. The engine makes 145bhp and 149Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox. Now, the R 1300 RT is the company’s flagship tourer, and the motorcycle will also get the new AMT gearbox that made its debut on the R 1300 GSA.
New BMW R 1300 RT — Other details
Other signature aspects of the motorcycle will remain unchanged such as the telelever front suspension system similar to the R 1300 GS, disc brakes at both ends, a shaft drive system, and the dual-channel integral ABS tech with lean sensitivity. The motorcycle will get a TFT instrument cluster.
Other electronic aids will be retained such as traction control, adaptive cruise control, riding modes, and more, while there will be a ton of optional extras such as an adaptive headlight, audio system, electronic suspension adjustability, keyless function, and a heated seat amongst others.
