KTM is gearing up to launch and unveil five new motorcycle models at EICMA, however, one of its highlights will not be in the form of a product, but its tech. After its arch nemesis, BMW introduced the automatic gearbox with the new GSA, and KTM will unveil its AMT gearbox at EICMA.
KTM AMT — What is it?
Recently, amongst the many prototype motorcycles KTM was seen testing, one adventure motorcycle stood out for its missing clutch lever. KTM’s teaser also revealed something similar for its flagship adventure motorcycle and this points in one direction — an AMT gearbox.
Honda has been using a DCT gearbox for a while now and there have been many takers. Yamaha has also introduced its version of an auto gearbox with the MT-09, called the Y-AMT, while BMW was one of the latest to do so with its flagship adventure motorcycle, the R 1300 GS Adventure.
With more motorcycles seeing the introduction of automatic gears aimed at making riding large motorcycles easier, the community has had a mixed opinion. Riders who have experienced the ease of riding with an AMT love it, while some prefer to keep the gears under their control with a traditional manual gearbox.
