Bajaj has shown interest in bringing the first SuperMoto to India, the KTM 390 SMC R. First showcased at EICMA, the new 390 SMC R is based on the same platform as the latest 390 Adventure range that consists of the 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure S, and the 390 Enduro R — the latter two which will be launched in India. Ahead of its launch here, more details about the 390 Supermoto have also surfaced.
New KTM 390 SMC R — All the details you need
As mentioned earlier, the motorcycle will be based on the same platform as the updated 390 Adventure range. It gets a steel trellis frame suspended by adjustable WP USD forks at the front and an adjustable monoshock at the rear. The suspension setup will offer 230mm of travel and the motorcycle will weigh 154kg, almost 11kg lighter than the 390 Duke.
The motorcycle will get 17-inch wheels at both ends, brakes from the new 390 Duke with plenty of stopping power, a 4.2-inch TFT display, riding modes, and switchable ABS, probably with a mode called ‘Supermoto’. The motorcycle will get dual-channel ABS as standard, along with a host of electronic aids and phone connectivity.

Powering the new KTM 390 SMC R will be the potent 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from the new 390 Duke, mated to a six-speed gearbox and surely a quick shifter. The engine is rev-happy and has loads of torque at lower revs, making it perfect for a Supermoto machine.

Coming to the launch, Bajaj is gauging the Indian market and how it responds to the new 390 Adventure S and the Enduro R motorcycles. Post the analysis, Bajaj is expected to launch the 390 SMC R in India after a year. When launched, the motorcycle will have no direct competition.
