There are two exciting motorcycles enthusiasts are waiting for — the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure and the Royal Enfield Himalayan Rally. Both are to be showcased at EICMA and even before their unveil, spy shots have revealed what they look like. Both promise to be off-road-focused machines and let’s see how they compare against each other in terms of specifications.
KTM 390 Adventure vs Royal Enfield Himalayan: The intro
Before we dive deep into their specifications, let’s take a quick look at what they are. The KTM 390n Adventure R is brand new — it gets a revised trellis frame similar to the 390 Duke’s platform with adjustable USD forks, a monoshock at the rear, and wire-spoke wheels with a 21 front and 17-inch rear section.
The KTM 390 Adventure gets a tall seat at 885mm with 230mm suspension travel while a host of electronic aids such as traction control, ride modes, and cornering ABS keep a check on the power delivery. The motorcycle also gets a TFT dash with phone connectivity and features an all-new design.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan Rally is based on the current Himalayan, but with updated components such as adjustable suspension, a flatter seat, and wire-spoke wheels. Now, the mystery with the Himalayan Rally is that we are unsure if India will get the bike as is, or if specific components such as the suspension will be available to transfer the standard Himalayan to a rally-spec version.
The Himalayan also benefits from ride modes, ABS modes, and a TFT instrument console with navigation, similar to the current motorcycle on sale. It is unclear as of now if the motorcycle will be taller than the current version and if it is, by how much. More details on this will emerge in a few days when EICMA kicks off.

On paper, the KTM makes more power and is a lighter motorcycle, while the Himalayan has the displacement advantage and makes marginally more torque compared to its Austrian rival.
