Mopeds were popular in India many decades ago, and they were so popular that they were even used to race. Some notable names were the TVS 50, Luna, and the Hero Puch. The Puch was so popular amongst performance enthusiasts as it had a manual gearbox, while TVS entered professional racing with the TVS 50, piloted by some popular names like Subhash Chandra Bose, or known amongst enthusiasts as ‘Bullet Bose’, reaching speeds of over 100kmph.
Fast forward to the current years and the mopeds were killed, apart from the TVS, which grew in displacement, and became modern, all the time while holding on to good sales numbers. The TVS XL was in a segment on its own, with no direct threat, however, now there is one in the form of the Kinetic Luna, but in an all-electric form. So how similar are they, or how different are the two mopeds? Let’s find out.
Kinetic E-Luna vs TVS XL — Similarities

The Kinetic E-Luna and the TVS XL are both designed to be used for a wide variety of jobs, from personal commutes to carrying loads. Both vehicles feature a step-through design, minimal bodywork, wide seats, a narrow waistline, a relaxed riding position, foot pegs similar to motorcycles, and hand-operated controls for the brakes.
Other similarities also include their hardware such as telescopic front forks, dual rear shocks, wire-spoke wheels, drum brakes at both ends, halogen lighting, and a removable rear seat to add accessories, based on what the vehicle is used for.
Kinetic E-Luna vs TVS XL — Differences

The most important difference between the two is the drivetrain. The E-Luna is all-electric, while the TVS XL uses an internal combustion engine. While both engines can’t be compared directly, they are made to be relaxed, offer good torque, and most importantly, be efficient and as light as possible.

Other differences are in terms of what they feature — the Kinetic E-Luna gets a digital instrument cluster while the TVS XL gets a basic analogue speedometre. Another big difference is the detail in the design language as the E-Luna features a more boxy design while the TVS XL retains its original silhouette.
