It’s nice when automakers bring back names from the past, like Kinetic DX. The DX was probably one of the first two-wheelers most people have ridden, and the company has made a comeback in an all-electric form. Kinetic has not just made a comeback, but has made it in an extremely quirky way, and we list out the top 5.
Kinetic DX: 5 Key features to know
Starting the vehicle
Kinetic says goodbye to the traditional key, and even to smartphones to start the new DX. All one has to do is open up the little flap below the instrument cluster and type in the number to go — that’s a cool feature.
Charging
No more hassle of chargers taking up boot space, or having to deal with tangled cables. Long-press a switch on the right switchgear, and a flap opens on the left side of the scooter, which houses an inbuilt charger. Just pull out the cable to charge, and when done, it retracts itself.
Foot peg release
Pillion foot pegs folded? No worries. One need not reach out with their feet to open them or use their hands. Push the lever on the left switchgear with your thumb, and the pegs pop open. This is interesting as no other manufacturer has thought of this yet.
Storage
Underseat storage is something electric scooters are playing with, and Kinetic has done the same. There is 37 litres of storage under the seat, which is more than sufficient to carry two half helmets. Furthermore, there is an indentation at the front, which allows one to carry more things, while the boot stores two helmets.
It’s all-metal
Electric vehicles have seen extensive use of plastic on the bodywork, as this keeps the vehicle light. However, few manufacturers have opted for metal bodies, and Kinetic is one of them. While it does add a bit of weight, it gives the scooter a premium finish and feel.
Kinetic DX: Battery specifications
The new Kinetic electric scooter is available in two variants: DX and DX+. The former costs Rs 1.11 lakh and the latter, Rs 1.17 lakh. Both scooters are powered by a 2.6kWh LFP battery pack mounted on the floorboard and has a claimed top speed and range of 80kmph and 102km for the DX, while the DX+ offers a range of 116km and a top speed of 90kph.
Kinetic claims that if one sets the cruise lock between 25–30kmph, the scooter will offer a range of 150km. That said, the Kinetic DX electric scooter can charge from 0 to 80 percent in 3 hours and charge fully in 4 hours.
