Kawasaki KLX 230 sees massive price drop

Affordable off-roaders just got more interesting as Kawasaki has announced a massive price drop for the KLX 230 in India. The motorcycle, which was on sale for Rs 3.33 lakh, has seen a price reduction of Rs 1.3 lakh, and the motorcycle now costs Rs 1.99 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes it a compelling choice in the segment and takes the competition to its closest rival in the segment, the Hero Xpulse 210.

Kawasaki KLX 230 price drop: How was this done?

Kawasaki will be manufacturing the Kawasaki KLX 230 in India, which has helped the Japanese manufacturer shave off a big chunk from the motorcycle’s pricing. Kawasaki says nothing has changed and the motorcycle will remain the same mechanically, while upholding all the traits that make the motorcycle a great dual-sport machine.

The ‘made in India’ Kawasaki KLX 230 will retain its telescopic front suspension and a monoshock at the rear with 240mm and 250mm of travel, respectively, while the motorcycle runs on a 21-18 wire-spoke wheel setup. The result is a massive 265 mm ground clearance. The KLX 230 gets disc brakes at both ends and gets a 7.6-litre fuel tank.

Powering the motorcycle is an old-school single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The 233cc engine makes 18bhp and 18Nm of torque with the help of a 6-speed gearbox. While the engine specifications may not speak much, the combination of the engine and the KLX 230’s weight of 136kg, along with the long travel suspension setup, makes it an extremely capable off-roader.

Kawasaki KLX 230 price drop: Competition

The closest competition to the Kawasaki KLX 230 in India is the Hero Xpulse 210. Priced at Rs 1.75 lakh ex-showroom, the Xpulse 210 gets a similar setup with long travel suspension in both ends offering 210mm travel in the front and 205mm travel at the rear, while it also gets the same 21-18 wire spoke wheel seup, a high fender, sleek design, and disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS.

The Xpulse is powered by a 210cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 24bhp and 21Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed gearbox. While engine specifications say the Xpulse 210 is more powerful than the KLX 230, the Xpulse has a weight disadvantage and tips the scales at 170kg, considerably more than the KLX.
