The Jawa 42 recently received an update and a massive price cut. The retro motorcycle receives tweaks in engine and mechanicals and is value-for-money. With the new pricing, it now squares off against the TVS cruiser, the Ronin. We take a closer look at the Jawa 42 and the Ronin. 

Jawa 42 vs TVS Ronin comparison: Engine

The Jawa 42 features a 294.72 cc liquid-cooled engine that delivers 27 bhp and 26.8 Nm of torque, coupled with a six-speed gearbox that includes a slip-and-assist clutch. The latest iteration of this retro motorcycle comes with gear-based throttle mapping. Jawa states that the engine has been refined to enhance low-end torque delivery. Additionally, the motorcycle’s counterbalance has been redesigned to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

The Ronin features a 225.9 cc oil-cooled engine that produces 20.1 bhp and 19.923 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed gearbox. Additionally, it is equipped with an assist and slipper clutch.

The Jawa 42 and the Ronin are based on the double cradle frame. Jawa 42 keeps things simple and has 35 mm telescopic front forks and twin gas-filled rear shockers. It comes standard with a 280 mm front disc brake and 240 mm disc at the rear. Its front tyre size is 90/90 18 inch and 120/80 17 inch at the rear. The Jawa has a seat height of 788 mm and a ground clearance of 165 mm. The entry-level variants get single-channel ABS while the top models have dual-channel ABS. This is the case for both motorcycles. 

The Jawa 42 single-channel lineup starts from Rs 1.73 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh and the dual-channel model from Rs 1.83 lakh to Rs 1.98 lakh, ex-showroom. 

The Ronin gets the more premium upside-down 41 mm front forks and a mono-shock with 7-step adjustable. It comes standard with a 300 mm front disc brake and 240 mm disc at the rear. The takes a step further and offers two ride modes — Rain and Urban, and the top model gets adjustable brake and clutch levers. The Ronin has a seat height of 795 mm and 181 mm ground clearance.  

The Ronin is available in four trims starting from Rs 1.49 lakh to Rs 1.73 lakh, ex-showroom.
