The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is yet another sub-500cc motorcycle launched in India, in a scrambler format, competing with the Triumph Scrambler 400X and its sibling from the Austrian stable, the KTM 390 Adventure.
The two motorcycles share a lot in common, while also featuring unique components. Here’s how the new Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 compares against the KTM 390 Adventure.
Platform and design

The new Svartpilen 401 shares the same trellis frame as the new KTM 390 Duke with an offset rear suspension. However, the subframe on the Svartpilen is a tubular unit instead of the new aluminium section on the new Duke. The Husqvarna gets a round headlight, minimal bodywork, a relaxed but slightly forward-set riding position, and dual-purpose tyres.

The KTM 390 Adventure features a full trellis frame and is yet to get the new chassis update seen on the 390 Duke. The adventure motorcycle features a large headlight, sleek bodywork, and a tall seat height, while also offering a relaxed, upright riding position.
Engine specifications

The Svratpilen uses the same KTM engine, however, the Husqvarna uses the latest 399cc unit while the KTM 390 Adventure uses the older 373c engine. Both motorcycles get a 6-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter. The engine on the Svartpilen makes marginally more power and torque, while the 390 Adventure will soon get the update.
| Specifications | Svartpilen 401 | 390 Adventure |
| Displacement | 399cc | 373cc |
| Power | 45.3bhp | 43bhp |
| Torque | 39Nm | 37Nm |
| Gearbox | 6-speed | 6-speed |
Features and equipment

The Svartpilen gets spoke wheels, tyres with tubes, fully adjustable USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends with switchable dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a TFT dash with optional Bluetooth connectivity.

The KTM 390 Adventure gets alloy wheels or optional spoke wheels, fully-adjustable USD suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends with switchable and cornering ABS, traction control, and a TFT dash with phone connectivity. When compared, the KTM is better than the Husqvarna, especially in the electronics department.
So which of the two?

The Svartpilen 401 is the newest motorcycle in the category and features a minimalistic urban scrambler design. The motorcycle is well-equipped and features high-end components, which is more than sufficient for everyday use. However, when compared to the KTM, the added safety net of the cornering ABS makes the 390 Adventure more desirable.
There is no doubt that the KTM 390 Adventure is more capable off-road, but knowing that there will soon be an updated version with a new chassis and engine, we’d say hold on. If the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 checks all the boxes, go for it, however, if more serious off-roading is involved, wait for the new KTM 390 Adventure.
