Honda’s two-wheeler division flourishes on its scooter range, especially with the Activa — both 110cc and 125cc models. The second largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the country, Honda is eyeing to take the numero uno spot by introducing multiple two-wheelers in the future. In the recent past, the Japanese auto giant has filed multiple patents in India.
While merely registering a patent doesn’t guarantee a market launch, it certainly signifies that Honda is exploring a lot of options for the Indian market. The latest patent filed by Honda in India is a scooter called NPF 125, a sporty 125cc scooter which will possibly take on the likes of TVS Ntorq, Suzuki Burgman Street, and the recently launched Hero Xoom 125.
Honda NPF 125: Design & Features
On the first glance, one finds out that the NPF 125 gets an aggressive front fascia with twin LED headlamps nestled within the front apron. The turn indicators are also housed within the side fairings. It also gets a chunky grab rail which can be used to mount a top box if needed. Other visual highlights include H-shaped taillights, a single piece seat, and an upswept exhaust muffler.
At the same time, the scooter looks very practical with a flat floorboard which might come in handy while carrying luggage. The underseat storage is rated at 14.5-litres which is good enough for a half face helmet. The front storage compartments behind the apron are spacious enough to store small knick knacks. We expect Honda to offer a fully-digital instrument panel with Bluetooth connectivity on the NPF 125.
Honda NPF 125: Powertrain specs
The Honda NPF 125 is powered by a 124cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 9.51 PS and 10 Nm of torque. It offers a decent fuel efficiency of approximately 50 km/l and a top speed of 90 kmph. The 5.7-litre fuel tank allows for a cruising range of about 300 km.
The scooter rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels, fitted with 90/90 and 100/90 tires, respectively. A 755mm seat height provides good control and handling. The base model features drum brakes with CBS on both wheels, while the top-tier variant includes a front disc brake with ABS.
