Honda’s flagship adventure motorcycle, the Africa Twin, is set to make a comeback in 2026. The Honda Africa Twin was on sale in India previously, but as the BS6 norms crept in, Honda quietly pulled it away from the Indian market, leaving adventure enthusiasts with either the NX500 or the Transalp 750.
Honda Africa Twin India launch
Honda previously sold the Africa Twin in a single Adventure Sports version in India, the highest-spec offering. Now, though, Honda is expected to launch the base variant as well, alongside the Adventure Sports version. The Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports version was the range-topping variant, which boasted a larger 24.8-litre fuel tank, more suspension travel, and electronic suspension, amongst others.
The base version of the Honda Africa Twin sports a smaller 18.8-litre tank, a lower windscreen, a 21-inch front wheel, and basically a lower kerb weight compared to the Adventure Sports trim. Both versions of the Honda Africa Twin are also expected to come with tubeless spoke wheels, making them puncture-resistant to an extent.
The Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and base versions both have higher variants of them that boast electronically adjustable suspension, and with the base model also making it to India this time, customers will have a choice in terms of pricing.
Honda Africa Twin Engine specifications
Regardless of the kit they carry, both versions of the Africa Twin are powered by the same engine. The unit is a 1083cc, liquid-cooled parallel twin engine that makes 100bhp and 112Nm of peak torque.
Both versions of the Africa Twin – Base and Adventure Sports – have a manual gearbox and a DCT option, and there is no clarity on what Honda will bring to India when launched.
That said, the Honda Africa Twin base version weighs 233kg, while the larger Adventure Sports version with the dual-clutch transmission tips the scale at 253kg.
Speaking of the launch, the Honda Africa Twin will compete with the BMW R 1300 GS/GSA, Triumph Tiger 1200 series, Ducati Multistrada, and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S in India. Global competitors also remain the same for the Honda Africa Twin.
