Hero MotoCorp and Honda have been battling hard to take the best-selling crown in India and the two companies have products that lead the segment — Hero with the Splendor and Honda with the Activa. Hero seems to be an unshakable force, however, Honda managed to reign supreme in April 2025 sales. However, in May, Hero has snatched the crown again.
Hero vs Honda — May 2025 sales
In May 2025, Hero MotoCorp sold 4,88,997 two-wheelers in the domestic market as compared to selling 4,79,450 units in May 2024. Last month, Hero’s scooter sales accounted for 32,537 units, while motorcycle sales stood at 4,75,164 units, both segments witnessing a YoY growth.
For Honda, the Activa is still the best-seller and the best-selling scooter in India. Honda’s sales stood at 4,17,256 units in the domestic market in May 2025. Honda launched multiple new motorcycles in the last few days, including the Rebel 500, Hornet 750, CB1000 Hornet SP, and the X-ADV 750 adventure scooter.
Honda is also gearing up to launch the updated Transalp 750 in India. While these may not account for significant sales numbers for Honda, they add to the company portfolio. Honda’s sales numbers will be from the commuter segment, and the Activa has seen a recent refresh, while the company is yet make a significant dent with its EV offerings — Active e and QC1.
For Hero MotoCorp, multiple new launches have helped, including the Xoom 125, XPulse 210, Xtreme 250R, and others. The Hero Splendor, which is the best-selling product for Hero, has also seen a recent update, helping keep the segment fresh. Hero is also yet to make a significant impact with its EV offering, the Vida scooter range, however, with 7,161 units sold last month and a market share of 7.2%, Hero is far ahead of Honda in EV sales.
