New motorcycles in the sub-500cc category continue to come into the Indian market and the latest is the Hero Mavrick, a retro roadster based on the Harley-Davidson X440 platform. While Hero has not announced the prices yet, the Mavrick is an interesting alternative to many motorcycles in the segment, including the X440.

So for those wondering if the new Hero Mavrick is just a rebadged Harley-Davidson X440, the answer is no. That leaves customers wondering which of the two to choose and what are the similarities and differences between the new Mavrick and the X440. Here’s all you need to know.

Hero Mavrick vs HD X440 – Differences

Let’s start with the differences first. The most prominent is the design of the Mavrick when compared to the X440. The X440 features a minimalistic, cruiser design with a sculpted tank and large side panels. The Harley-Davidson features a slightly up-swept exhaust and most of the engine components and bodywork are finished in black.

The Hero Mavrick gets a muscular tank with shrouds on either side, a round headlamp with a surround, a sporty grab rail, rear light integrated into the tail section, and a chunky side-slung exhaust. Overall, The Mavrick has a much sportier roadster appeal compared to the X440’s cruiser design.

Other differences include the alloy wheel design and the wheel sizes themself. The X440 gets an 18-inch front and 17-inch rear while the Mavrick gets 17-inch wheels front and rear. The speedometer console is also different, as the X440 gets a round unit while the Mavrick gets a different shape. The suspension setup is also different, as the Harley gets a USD unit and the Mavrick gets a traditional telescopic front suspension.

The engine on the Mavrick makes 26bhp and 36Nm of torque, while on the X440, the engine makes slightly more power and torque. The engine on both motorcycles is paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
