This might bring a smile to many — KTM has been spotted testing the new 390 SMC R Supermoto in Europe. The KTM 390 SMC R will be based on the new 390 platform and share the same engine specifications as the Duke as well. The KTM 390 SMC R will be sold in Europe, as there is a big market for Supermoto motorcycles, while it can be expected in India as well.
KTM 390 SMC R — What is it?
The new KTM 390 SMC R is a Supermoto-styled motorcycle, which will be the entry-level offering in KTM’s SMC R range. The motorcycle will share a lot of components with the Duke and the upcoming 390 Adventure while sporting long travel suspension, 17-inch wheels, a high fender, a single-piece seat and a narrow tail section.
Based on the spied prototype pictures, the motorcycle gets USD forks, a monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends with switchable dual-channel ABS, traction control, lean-sensitive ABS, and all the electronics the current-gen 390 Duke gets.
Power will also be from the same 399cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit that makes 45.3bhp and 39Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quickshifter. In terms of competition, the KTM 390 SMC R will have no direct rivals in India.
