Royal Enfield introduced the Scram 440 at the Motoverse in November last year. A heavily upgraded model over the older Scram 411, the new Scram 440 came with a larger engine displacement which pushed out higher power and torque output over the former. Also, the new Scram 440 was far letter equipped and addressed all niggles seen in the outgoing Scram.

The bike went on sale in January this year but it has now come to light that sales of the Scram 440 have been paused. According to Autocar India, the company reportedly ceased bookings and sales of this motorcycle in April, a couple of months after deliveries for the bike commenced.

Royal Enfield Scram 440: Production stopped

The report mentions that Enfield has stopped production for the Scram 440 due to an internal fault in isolated units where the engine is unwilling to start after having run for some time. In usual circumstances, the engine does not stall during operation, but in some cases, it fails to restart after being turned off. Sources indicate that the issue stems from a component known as the Woodruff key within the magneto.

It has been learnt that the Chennai-based bikemaker has already started to send updated components to dealers to be installed on existing customer motorcycles. However, the company is yet to accept fresh orders or dispatch new units of the Scram 440 since April 10. Only 2 percent of the bikes dispatched till date have been affected by this fault. It seems Enfield is being extra cautious before resuming production.

The Autocar India report mentions that Enfield is aiming to resume bookings and sales by June 2025, however, this cannot be confirmed officially. Enfield also hasn’t issued an official recall statement for the Scram 440 since we couldn’t find any notification regarding the same on the SIAM website.
