Ducati is updating the engine on the Monster and Desert X from next year. According to a leaked document published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration and reported by Motorcycle.com, the street naked and the adventure tourer will be powered by Ducati’s new 890cc V-Twin motor.
Ducati’s new 890cc engine — Specifications
The new 890cc V-Twin engine first made its debut at EICMA last year, and went on to power the Ducati Panigale V2 and the Streetfighter V2. The engine then made its way to power the Multistrada V2 as well. One of the biggest highlights of the new engine is that it weighs just 54kg.
The engine makes 118bhp and 93.3Nm of peak torque in the Panigale and in the Streetfighet, while it makes marginally less power – 113bhp – in the Multistrada. The engine is expected to be in the same state of tune for the Monster and Desert X.
All the new Ducatis are expected to come to India soon, and when they are launched here, they have a big list of competitors, from the Triumph Street Triple to the Tiger 900, and a number of Japanese motorcycles from Suzuki and Kawasaki.
And speaking of Triumph, the British manufacturer is gearing up to unveil something special — a sportier version of the Speed Triple, which will be unveiled on May 13, while Kawasaki is also eyeing an 1100cc version of the Z street naked.
