It’s always exciting when there’s a new motorcycle incoming, and this time, it’s the BMW R12 GS. The motorcycle, as well all know, was teased by Motorrad and its global debut will take place tomorrow. Ahead of the launch, we know a few details about the motorcycle, and here they are.

BMW R12 GS — What we know so far

The new BMW R12 GS has been under development for a while now and during the first quarter of 2024, Markus Flasch, the big boss of BMW Motorrad confirmed that the company is working on an off-road enduro motorcycle. The motorcycle will share its underpinnings and the engine from the R 12 nineT.

The motorcycle, focused on being more off-road capable, will have longer suspension travel, and will ride on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels. The motorcycle will also have minimal bodywork, an upswept exhaust, and will be more off-road-focused than the R 1300 GS, which is an adventure motorcycle.

BMW R12 GS — Engine specifications and features

The upcoming R12 GS will use an air and oil-cooled boxer twin engine from the R 12 nineT — a 1,170cc unit mated to a six-speed gearbox. The engine makes 110bhp and 115Nm of torque in the R 12 nineT, however, the engine could see a slight tweak in the way it makes power in the R12 GS.

As far as electronics are concerned, the R12 GS is expected to get switchable dual-channel ABS, a TFT instrument console with smartphone connectivity, and basic traction control. BMW might not give the R12 GS all the bells and whistles as the R 1300 GS. Stay tuned, as we will be bringing all the details from the global unveil.
