After multiple teasers, a lot of anticipation, and speculations, BMW has unveiled the R12 GS globally. The BMW R12 GS is a more off-road-focused motorcycle, based on the R 12 nineT. Here are more details on the new BMW R12 GS.
BMW R12 GS — Design and features
The new R12 GS is based on the same platform as the R 12 nineT, while it features a taller stance. The motorcycle gets minimal bodywork and features a small headlight fairing, a raised front fender, knuckle guards, and a single-piece seat.

The motorcycle is suspended on adjustable USD forks at the front, a monoshock at the rear, and a 21-inch front wheel. The rear gets an option of either 17-inch or 18-inch, resulting in two variants of the motorcycle itself — Standard and Enduro Package Pro. This also results in a higher saddle height and BMW offers an optional rally seat that raises the saddle height to 890mm.
BMW R12 GS — Engine specifications and electronics
The engine in the new R12 GS is the same 1170cc air and oil-cooled boxer-twin mated to a six-speed gearbox. The motorcycle gets four ride modes – Road, Rain, Enduro, and Enduro Pro. That said, BMW also offers a full electronics suite with the R12 GS that includes traction control, lean-sensitive ABS, keyless ignition, adaptive headlights, and more.
