A few months ago, BMW Motorrad listed the new R 1300 GS on its India website. The German brand has now announced that the launch of the flagship adventure tourer will take place on June 13. The new R 1300 GS will sit on top of the recently launched and replaces the outgoing R 1250 GS in the brand’s adventure touring lineup.
Bookings for the new R 1300 GS are currently underway via the company’s official website and selected dealerships. The premiere ADV made its global debut in September last year, and will be brought to India as a fully-imported model via the CBU route. The R 1300 GS will be available in three trims namely— GS Trophy, Triple Black and the top-spec Option 719 Tramuntana.
BMW R 1300 GS: Design
BMW has done a smart thing by not tinkering with the design of the new flagship. The prominent beak up front and a heavily shrouded muscular fuel tank gives the bike an intimidating feel. Complementing the headlamp nestled within the front fairing are two position lamps tucked underneath the beak.

The adjustable fly screen looks small in comparison to other contemporary ADVs. Other visual highlights include a floating tail section, a single-piece pillion grab rail with an integrated luggage rack, split seats, a stubby upswept exhaust muffler, hand guards, and a rear tyre hugger. The R 1300 GS is also 13 kilos lighter than its predecessor.
BMW R 1300 GS: Mechanical specs
Powering the R 1300 GS is an all-new 1,300cc, twin-cylinder engine that makes 145 bhp at 7,750rpm and a peak torque of 149Nm at 6,500rpm. This is a significant bump up from 134 bhp and 143 Nm of peak torque dished out by R 1250 GS earlier. This motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
Underpinning the R 1300 GS is a sheet metal frame complemented by a die cast aluminium subframe that sits on an electronically adjustable suspension setup BMW’s patented Telelever front suspension and Paralever rear suspension unit. The adventure tourer rides on wire-spoked wheels shod with 120/70-R19 and 170/60-R17, front and rear tyres, respectively.

BMW R 1300 GS:Â Features
