BMW Motorrad has teased the CE 02 ahead of its launch in India. On the social media post the caption says “arriving soon”, we expect BMW to launch the same sometime later this month. While BMW calls it a scooter, it is essentially a crossover between scooter and motorcycle, similar to a moped.

More importantly, the CE 02 will be the first electric two-wheeler to emerge from the TVS-BMW partnership. The electric scooter is being manufactured at TVS’ Hosur plant. The latest teaser reveals some interesting details about the electric scooter.

BMW CE 02: What to expect?

Up front, the CE 02 gets a small flyscreen on top of the square-ish headlamp along golden colour front forks. The flat single-piece seat is colour-coded with the side panels, while the saree guard and the rear tyre hugger with a number plate mount is neatly integrated to the rear wheel hub. The entire design centres around functionality and hence there is minimal use of body panels.

In terms of hardware, suspension setup in the CE 02 consists of front upside down forks, and an offset gas charged monoshock at the rear. It rides on 14-inch black alloy wheels, while stopping power is carried out by disc brakes at both ends. BMW is expected to offer features like a 3.5-inch TFT instrument panel that should come with connectivity options. Other expected features should include  USB-C charging and keyless ignition.

Powering the BMW CE 02 is an air-cooled synchronous motor that draws energy from two removable 2 kWh batteries that can offer a range up to 90 km on a single charge. The motor dishes out a peak output of 15 bhp and can clock a 95 kmph. BMW will offer three riding modes: Flow, Surf And Splash along with a reverse mode.

The battery can be charged using a 0.9 kW standard charger, which takes 5 hours and 12 minutes to charge both batteries from 0 – 100%. Additionally, the CE 02 is also compatible with a 1.5 kW fast charger, bringing down charging time to 3 hours 30 minutes. BMW launched the CE 04 electric scooter in July this year at a price of Rs 14.90 lakh. Expect the upcoming CE 02 to be priced around Rs 5 lakh (all prices ex-showroom), given it’s manufactured in India.
