BMW Motorrad has launched R 12 classic cruiser in India. The R 12 joins BMW’s Heritage range and at Rs 19.90 lakh, ex-showroom, it will be the entry-level cruiser in the portfolio. The all-new motorcycle comes standard in Blackstorm metallic, and offers two optional colour schemes —Avus Silver and Aventurine Red. The deliveries are expected to commence from September 2024 onwards.
BMW R 12: Engine Specifications
Powering the R 12 is a 1,170cc, air/oil-cooled boxer twin engine that produces 94 bhp at 6,500 rpm and 110 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The R 12 has two ride modes, Roll and Rock. BMW has also replaced the conventional ignition lock with the standard Keyless Ride system.Â

The R 12 draws inspiration from the flagship cruiser, the R 18 Transcontinental. It boasts a raked-out front end, a single seat, and bar-end mirrors that contribute to a dominant riding stance. The tubular handlebars, dual exhaust pipes, teardrop-shaped fuel tank and the sleek LED headlight and modern instrumentation add a contemporary touch.

With a low seat height, the R 12 has a relaxed riding position with wide handlebars and forward-set footpegs. The R 12 comes equipped with standard ABS Pro for enhanced braking performance and traction control for added safety.
The rear section looks compact and sports integrated indicator lamps and rear light. The front wheel is 19-inch in size while the rear wheel is 16-inch rear. R 12 feature upside-down telescopic forks with a 45 mm slider tube diameter.
The R 12 features a twin disc brake system with two radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake calipers and a 310 mm diameter. The rear wheel employs a single disc brake with a 2-piston floating caliper and a 265 mm diameter. All R 12 models come standard with BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, enhancing safety by providing ABS-assisted braking even when leaning into corners.
BMW is offering an optional Comfort package that includes Hill Start Control Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, heated grips and cruise control.
