Bajaj is reportedly working on a more affordable variant of the Chetak electric scooter. This new variant will sit below the existing Premium variant and is likely to be equipped with a smaller battery pack.
Bajaj Urbane: Specs & dimensions
As per a government document, this new variant will be called Chetak Urbane which will be powered by a smaller 2.48 kWh battery pack. For reference, the Chetak Premium gets a slightly larger 2.88kWh unit. As a result, the Urbane trim claims a lower IDC range of 113 km, as opposed to the 126 km figure of the Premium on a single charge.

The document reveals that dimensions of the Urbane variant are identical to those of the Premium variant. Both models measure 1,894 mm in length, 725 mm in width, 1,132 mm in height, and its wheelbase is 1,330 mm. However, Urbane gets a 3kg lighter gross weight. Therefore, the kerb weight of Chetak Urbane should be around 130kg.
A while back, a test mule of the Chetak e-scooter was spied testing public roads. It is possible that this test unit could be the upcoming Chetak Urbane with a smaller battery. If that’s the case, then this model is expected to come equipped with a simpler hub motor setup instead of a mid-mounted set-up with a set-down gearbox integrated into the swingarm.
The leaked document mentions that the PMS motor will offer a peak power capacity of 4.28 kW. Currently priced at Rs 1.61 lakh, we expect the new Chetak Urbane to be priced around Rs 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom, inclusive of FAME II subsidies).
