Back in 2004, Bajaj stepped into a whole new field when it decided to launch its first cruiser motorcycle – the Avenger. Initially a 180cc offering, the Avenger was later democratised into two additional engine categories– 160cc and 220cc, while the original 180cc version of the cruiser died quietly. Currently, Bajaj has two Avenger models in the lineup– Street 160 and Cruise 220.
The Chakan-based bikemaker is now planning to bring back the Street 220 variant of the Avenger. Bajaj has homologated the same under the Delhi Transport Department. The Street 220 version of Avenger will be cosmetically different from the Cruise 220 which is more traditionally adorned thanks to the overdose of chrome elements.
Bajaj Avenger Street 220: Changes expected
In contrast, the Avenger Street 220 will be a sportier version of the cruiser motorcycle with blacked-out elements such as alloy wheels, rear view mirrors, fork gaiters, exhaust muffler cover, front and rear fenders, and engine casing. The Street variant will also miss out on a pillion back rest and large windscreen which is seen in the Cruise variant. Instead, the Avenger Street 220 will get a small flyscreen up front.

We expect the same features and specification as the Avenger Cruise 220 in the upcoming cruiser bike. Even dimensionally, the Avenger Street 220 will be very similar to the Cruise 220 measuring 1,490 mm in wheelbase, 806 mm in width, and 2,210 mm in length. However, height has reduced from 1142 mm to 1070 mm, primarily due to the lack of the larger windscreen. Also, the Street 220 is 3 kilos lighter than the Cruise 220.
Bajaj Avenger Street 220: Specs & Features
Mechanically, the Avenger Street 220 will derive power from a 220cc, oil-cooled SOHC 2V/cyl single-cylinder engine that churns out 18.7bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 17.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The motorcycle features telescopic front forks with double anti-friction bushings for shock absorption, while the rear is equipped with five-step adjustable twin springs.
Braking is managed by a 280mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum brake, with safety enhanced by a single-channel ABS system. The feature list is basic, comprising a round LCD instrument cluster and LED headlamp and tail lamp.
