Yamaha has unveiled its latest fully-faired offering, the YZF-R9, which sports a new design language for Yamaha’s R-series motorcycles. In Yamaha’s R-series, the new R9 sits above the R7 and the flagship R1, which is slowly being phased out for road use.

Yamaha YZF-R9: What is it?

The new Yamaha R9 sports a sharp front fairing with winglets, giving it a unique, yet an R-series look. The LED projector headlight sits in the middle of the fairing flanked by DRLs on either side with a sharp tail section. The new R9 is available in three colour options: Team Yamaha Blue, Intensity White/Redline, and Matte Raven Black.

The motorcycle itself sits on an aluminium Deltabox frame, which Yamaha claims is the lightest on any of its supersport to date. The motorcycle is suspended by fully adjustable KYB USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear, while Brembo Stylema callipers take care of stopping power. The motorcycle also gets a TFT display with an electronics package that has traction control, wheelie control, cornering ABS, and more.

Coming to the eagerly awaited part — the engine. The motorcycle is powered by the same in-line triple that powers the MT-09, an 890cc unit. The engine makes 117bhp with the help of a six-speed gearbox mated to a quickshifter.
