KTM is revving up the 200 cc segment with the recent launch of the updated 200 Duke. Although the mechanics remain unchanged, the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer has added some new features to the bike. We put the revamped 200 Duke head-to-head with one of the most popular models in this category, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. The 200 Duke starts from Rs 1,98,950 while the Apache RTR 200 4V costs Rs 1,48,620, all ex-showroom. This segment is crucial as it the entry to performance motorcycles, and we find out which one you should consider purchasing.
KTM 200 Duke vs TVS Apache RTR 200 4V: Engine Specs
The new KTM 200 Duke continues to be powered by the 199.5 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, engine 24.6 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 19.3 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.Â
The Apache RTR 200 4V gets a 197.75 cc oil-cool engine that churns out 20.5 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 17.25 Nm at 7,250 rpm. The RTR 200 4V is the only motorcycle in the segment that comes with three ride modes — Sport, Urban and Rain. The latter two modes have an output of 17 bhp at 7,800 rpm and 16.51 Nm at 5,750 rpm. The motorcycle is mated to a 5-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch.

KTM is equipped with 200 Duke with a new 5-inch TFT digital display replacing the old LCD unit. It has a 4-way menu switch for easy access and control of the console. The new colour TFT unit reads out the turn-by-turn navigation system, changes music tracks and receives incoming calls via the KTM My-Ride app. It also offers two display modes — dark and orange theme.
The Apache RTR 200 4V comes with a monotone digital instrument cluster which has connected tech via a Bluetooth-enabled app that has features like turn-by-turn navigation, with preprogrammed essential stops like fuel stations, hospitals and restaurants, race analytics and records lean angle data. The display also shows incoming calls and messages. The Apache RTR 200 4V has a unique feature called the Crash Alert System that notifies the riders within 120 seconds and shares the location of the incident.

The 200 Duke is based on the split Trellis frame and has a 43 mm WP Apex USD front fork with a 10-step adjustable rear mono shock. It has a 300 mm disc brake in front and a 230 mm disc at the rear. The 200 Duke continues to have a 13.4-litre fuel tank with a ground clearance of 155 mm and a seat height of 822 mm. It comes standard with dual-channel ABS and Supermoto ABS which switch off ABS for the rear tyre.
The Apache RTR 200 4V gets telescopic front suspensions with a preload adjuster, mono-shock at the rear, 270 mm front disc brake and 240 mm rear disc, dual-channel ABS with Supermoto ABS function. It has a 12-litre fuel tank, ground clearance of 180 mm and a seat height of 800 mm.
