Even as unease between the coalition partners continued in Karnataka, former chief minister and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday said his party would not impose conditions while forming a government with the BJP.
Kumaraswamy added that the party would extend ?unconditional? support to the saffron party.
Under pressure from its own MLAs and also in the backdrop of BJP rejecting a fresh 12-point charter of conditions sent to its chief Rajnath Singh, the move is seen as an attempt to bury the Deve Gowda chapter in the run up to the formation of coalition government in the state.
Blaming media for the fledgling image of his party and its leaders, Kumaraswamy, while addressing a hurriedly called press conference in Bangalore, said, ?A section of electronic media has been portraying my party badly in the eyes of public after my father and JD(S) supremo mooted a 12-point suggestion. Hereafter, we will not set any condition. Our support will also be unconditional.?
Alleging that the media had distorted his remarks after calling on governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday, Kumaraswamy said, ?I have decided to surrender to silence in the wake of electronic media unnecessarily targeting me and my party.?
Conscious of its secular image in the state politics, the former chief minister, however, cautioned that his party would not be responsible for any untoward incident that would occur after the BJP-led government assumed office and declared, ?neither the media nor people should blame it?.
Meanwhile, a delegation of BJP on Sunday called on the governor and pleaded with him for an early decision on inviting the party to form government.
?We discussed on the prevailing political situation and appealed the governor to send his report as early as possible to facilitate revocation of the President?s rule and formation of BJP-led government,? Anantkumar, who led the delegation, said. The governor assured the delegation that he would soon submit his report to the Centre and act as per constitutional provisions, he said.
BJP?s visit to Raj Bhavan comes a day after former chief minister and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy was summoned by the governor, who expressed dismay over saffron party resorting to agitation and causing hardship to people in the city. The BJP has decided to call off the dharna on Sunday and go on ?save democracy? yatra from Monday.
