HD Kumaraswamy
Haradanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy, commonly known as HD Kumaraswamy, is an Indian politician and a member of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. He has served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka twice, first from 2006 to 2007 and then from 2018 to 2019.
Kumaraswamy was born on December 16, 1959, in the southern Karnataka town of Haradanahalli. He is the son of former Prime Minister of India, H. D. Deve Gowda. He began his political career as a member of the Janata Dal party and later founded the Janata Dal (Secular) along with his father.
Kumaraswamy has been elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) five times from various constituencies in Karnataka. He has also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
Kumaraswamy’s tenure as Chief Minister has been marked by several controversies and political upheavals. In 2006, he became Chief Minister as part of a power-sharing agreement with the Indian National Congress, but his government was short-lived and he resigned in 2007. In 2018, he was again appointed Chief Minister as part of a coalition government with the Congress, but the government collapsed in 2019 after several MLAs defected to the BJP.
Kumaraswamy is known for his efforts to improve the agricultural sector in Karnataka and has implemented several schemes for the benefit of farmers. He has also been involved in several initiatives to improve the infrastructure and living conditions of people in rural areas.
Despite his controversies, Kumaraswamy remains a prominent figure in Karnataka politics and continues to be a popular leader among the farmers and rural population of the state.
